.. y no, no quiere!

Luego de intentar con 2 iso de OpenSolaris, este no quiere arrancar!
Las pruebas:

• 2 intentos en un Athlon XP 1800+ con 256 MB de RAM (entiendo que pueda ser poca, pero ... Linux arranca, *BSD arranca, Indiana Preview 1 tambien!):
  Primero, con una ISO me da "read error on disk". Supuse que era un problema de la grabación. Me baje nuevamente la ISO, y la grabe, nuevamente!
  Segundo intento, con la ISO recien bajada y fresquita, carga GRUB (lo hacia también la anterior), pero luego de escribir "Solaris ... snv_32", se muere!
• Otro intento, con QEMU desde Windows. Con el qemu de 32 bit, no quizo saber de nada. Intente correro con qemu-system-x86_64 bit. VOILA!!!
  Comenzo todo bien, me pidio idioma del teclado, idioma de la DIST, perfecto, pero no arranco X,.............. mmmmmmmmmmm =(.
  OK, algo es algo.

Despúes de todo esto.. me queda probarlo en el notebook, con la segunda ISO recien bajada y ver que sucede!

Entiendo que este en una etapa de desarrollo muy temprana, pero recuerdo que con Linux hace ya unos cuantos años, en mi 586, con un poco de dolor y sufrimiento, todo arrancaba, sin mayores problemas...

En unos días tendré más resultados...... espero!!

Good News! Google Desktop and Picasa for 64 bit linux

Today, I found that Google lanuched Picasa 2.7 and Google Desktop for 64 bit architecture.

Linux ... always linux!

Looking in my cds I found a fantastic cd case, labeled "Red Hat Linux 7.2 CD-2"!
Red hat Linux was my first Linux installed. I remember that I installed the RH 5.1 in 1999. In those times was no adsl, only modem internet access here, and found Linux distribution was too difficult!! After 3 years, a friend of mine gave me RH 7.2, and I installed again! Don't remember too much about it, but I think that the Desktop Env was KDE 2.2, and kernel 2.4.X...

The time past .... and now

Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibson, with Mac4Lin installed. Wonderfull!!

Ok, I'm up again!

After five hours of hard job my laptop is running Ubuntu Linux 7.10 and Solaris Developer Edition, and Windows XP too but virtualized (powered by VirtualBox InnoTek). I'm trying too put everything OK again.

Ubuntu 7.10 is great! Autmatically do everything for me, the install was too clean and the configuration process was perfectly! A tip: the sources.list file has all the lines commented, you have to uncomment the main restricted especially.

The Solaris Installation had some troubles but OK, it's normal! I have to change my grub settings to boot dual and anything else!

OpenSuse Goes Live

OpenSuse Linux create a LiveCD based on OpenSuse 10.3. I see some screenshots and looks like very good! I will try it.

Building movies with open source.

Everyday, Open source software prove their quality. In this blog, talk about movies made with open source and moviews that will be made with it.

This movies are OpenSource too, but there are a lot of big movie enterprises that use OpenSource software to produce some parts of the movie. DreamWorks use a big Linux Cluster to render the movie. LinuxJournal published an excelent article about Shrek 3 the movie.

Dell venderá linux preinstalado en las notebooks...

Según varios sitios de noticias como The Inquirer, la página de noticias 20minutos, barrapunto, slashdot, etc. comentan que Dell en las proximas semanas podría comenzar ya a vender Notebooks con Linux preinstalado. Parece que las distribuciónes que se manejan son Ubuntu, openSuse, Fedora y alguna otra, pero en principio son esas, ya que son consideradas las más populares también.
Todavía no hay noticias sobre en que lineas de producto se va a preinstalar y tampoco si será en todas y una alternativa a Microsoft Windows.
